UNight U.K. Ltd

The night works better united.

One company with four arms, built on twenty years in the rooms that run the night: school assemblies, venue floors, licensing committees and Parliament.

What we do

Four arms. One team.

Each arm stands on its own. Together they cover the whole journey, from a young person learning to look after their friends to the policy that decides when the venue closes.

Winning late hours in one of the country’s toughest licensing environments

A national brand wanted later trading in London’s busiest late-night district, inside a cumulative impact area with objections on the table. We were part of the team that built the evidence case: night-time economy context, precedent mapping, dispersal analysis and the safety and welfare argument the licensing objectives actually turn on.

The method repeats. Find the revenue trapped behind an early close, then win the hours with evidence rather than assertion.

Public affairs and communications

Making the case in Parliament

Representing the night-time economy with MPs and ministers, from the APPG circuit to the committee room. Four years as an elected councillor means we know how a decision gets made and who makes it.

One for each year, growing with the student: having fun as safely as you can, going out as safely as you can, then adult freedoms and adult responsibilities. Notes for staff and parents and RSHE mapping come with every booking.

Who’s behind UNight

Matthew Jones-Roberts

UNight is led by Matthew Jones-Roberts, its director. He started as a youth worker in Medway and Kent, served four years as an elected councillor at Canterbury City Council and has spent more than a decade on the front line of the night-time economy, from venue floors and festival sites to Westminster.

That mix is the point. The same person can run a session with Year 12s in the morning, sit with a licensing team in the afternoon and make the case to an MP in the evening and be believed in all three rooms.

Organisations we rate

The ecosystem, by name

Advocates, deliverers, standards and causes. The organisations we recommend to clients and are proud to stand alongside.

Endorsement on this page runs one way. These are organisations whose values we respect and believe align with our own and whose work we rate and recommend. Their appearance here does not imply that they endorse UNight U.K. Ltd in return. Each scheme and organisation named remains independent and owned by its respective organisation.

Questions

Straight answers

Anything else, ring or email and we will tell you straight.

What does UNight do?

Four things. UNight Schools teaches night-time safety to schools, sixth forms, colleges and universities. The Open Sign builds and looks after websites and Google profiles for small businesses. We give public affairs, political, PR and marketing advice to organisations that need to be heard. And we campaign for a safer night-time economy, with the assessments and licensing evidence to back it up.

Is The Open Sign part of UNight?

Yes. The Open Sign is a trading name of UNight U.K. Ltd and our websites arm. It has its own site at theopensign.co.uk and it built this one.

What does a school session cost?

From £175 plus VAT for a single session and £300 plus VAT for a double session in one visit. A whole Safe Nights Day runs from £750 to £1,000 plus VAT. The UNight Schools site has the full detail and a quote form.

Can you give evidence at a licensing hearing?

Yes. We prepare evidence packs and give expert evidence in support of licensing applications, hearings and appeals, grounded in the licensing objectives and the National Licensing Policy Framework. Where a matter needs solicitors and counsel we work alongside them as the sector experts rather than in their place.

Who do you work with?

Schools, colleges and universities. Small and local businesses. Hospitality operators, national brands and franchisees. Councils, BIDs, police teams and licensing solicitors. Campaigns, charities and community interest companies. If someone else is the better answer for you, we will say so and make the introduction.

How does the free call work?

Thirty minutes with Matthew Jones-Roberts, our director, on a Thursday between 10am and 2pm. No charge and no pitch. Bring the problem and we will work out together whether there is something worth doing. If there is not, we will tell you that too.
